Definitely getting to be Spring

Today we got a pickup load of compost from the recycle center (if you have a center, they are likely to have mulch and compost, ours gives it out free), picked up some sulfur at the garden center, and then put that all on our new vegetable garden.

The free mulch and compost is a real benefit of our local trash utility. We use the mulch in our flower beds to give it a neater appearance, and the compost in our garden to add organic matter to the soil.

The mulch really spruces up the place, and is one of those things you can do to increase the value of your home.

You do have to be careful of this free stuff though. There is some trash that makes it into the mix (like kids toys that got raked up), so be prepared to sort through it a bit as you're spreading it around.

The garden should give us some nice veggies this summer, which will help on the grocery bill, plus be healthier than the stuff from Kroger or Wal-Mart.
