Spring has sprung

I think I've mentioned it before, but we live in a rural area. That means that our heat comes mainly from propane. Today we got our tank filled, and it will be the last time until late fall. That means an extra $250 or so per month to put on the credit card expenses. Yea!

We also are getting ready to plant our garden. It will be small, but should be enough for the two of us to have fresh produce from all summer and into the fall. What we don't grow we'll pick up at the farmer's market in town. I understand that in some parts of the country, you pay a premium for farmer's market produce, but here it's actually quite a bit less than a grocery store. The food is fresher, tastes much better, and we'll be helping local producers. All that and save money too, a definite win.

This year will see some maintenance on the house, which should help to reduce that big propane bill next winter. I'll do most of it myself to save money. Where I can't do the work, I'll try to do things like the demolition work (removing shingles for example).

Spring will be busy. Heck, summer will be busy as well. But it will be fun to see what improvements we can make on the house that won't cost a fortune but will pay for themselves in energy savings.

What things do you have planned for around the house this year?
